Calligraphy, Faith and Chemistry

Gothic calligraphy with reed pens and ink made by the students themselves, in a workshop shared with their chemistry and religion classes.

Calligraphy, Faith and Chemistry

The chemistry teacher guided the students in making ink with an ancient Benedictine recipe; the religion teacher told the story of faith’s role in spreading writing in the West. My part: teaching the rules of Gothic script.

The best surprise was the attention and passion with which the students tried out ancient tools such as the reed pen and the ink they had made themselves.
