Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is not a void between continents, but a container (continens) brimming with history. For millennia, vessels of every kind have crossed it far and wide: voyages of discovery and exploration, trade routes for all kinds of goods, paths of war, of negotiation or of peace, the spread of alphabets and ideas… an inextricable tangle of encounters and clashes, of cultures that devour, destroy, permeate and ally with one another… Fragmentation, interweaving, sedimentation, layering… this is the identity of the Mediterranean!
